Description

La Pelusa is a wall print by OpusStuf showing a stylized photograph of a cottonwood tree in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Open Space. The photograph was made in September when the leaves were turning to fall colors. A special effect was added to enhance color and contrast, and convert small shapes in the image into contiguous curves. At a distance, the image looks like a photograph. As you move in closer the illustrative special effect starts to appear.
Cottonwoods are fast growing, water loving trees that thrive in “delta like” areas alongside rivers and ponds where the soil is moist year round. They grow into a wide variety of shapes to adapt to the surroundings and obstructions next to them. This particular tree was probably 60+ feet tall and had few if any obstructions. It boasts a healthy assortment of branches, fully adorned with dense leaves. The leaves added a “fluff” to its appearance, which is where the name La Pelusa was derived.
