Seasonal and Effects

Alcanse

This photograph, Alcanse (reach), is a salute to the beauty of the Aspen forest northeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. It's a bit of a mind boggle to think about the fact that these majestic trees share a common root system over such a vast area. That's an enormous organism. The glory of this forest presents itself in the autumn of each year with an intense color burst. The color only lasts for a week or two, so huge flocks of people gather in various locations to view and photograph themselves with the trees during the peak of the color.

Hiker's Roost

It's a misty autumn day in the Aspen forest northeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Just below the Vista Grande Overlook is a popular spot for hikers, young and old, to pause and absorb the serenity and high altitude air. On the day this photograph was made, there was a significant crowd on the overlook platform up the hill from this cozy little spot. Only a few made the short hike down the slippery and steep slope below the platform. Happily there was no trash nor vandalism other than the carving in the host Aspen tree.

Structure

A fallen leaf gets its moment of fame with bi-directional lighting and a fluid effect in the OpusStuf studio. Viewed up close reveals a myriad of shapes in this image, including a curled lizard, black torch, Bambi’s face, a red dragon, and a few serpents for added flavor.

Copycats

The back story from the photographer:  “The yellow bicycle was sitting in a field next to the sunflower patch, just begging for someone to make a photograph. It was yellow on yellow."

Exodus

A pipeline to space might seem appealing at times, a conduit to escape the craziness of our world. Most of us get so caught up in the little bubble we live in, we forget about the larger picture of who we are in our overall world. Stop, close your eyes and take a mental exodus for a few minutes to a different location.

Moonstruck

This tree is real. It’s amazing that it is still alive after whatever caused the damage to its trunk. Hang this on a wall and be ready to answer a question or two. It doesn’t have to be Halloween season; it works year ‘round. Due to the ominous look of the opening in the trunk, it simply had to be enhanced.

Onset

The annular eclipse is a brief period of a few hours when the moon is slightly smaller than the sun, revealing the corona flare and a bright circle around the moon during the peak of the eclipse. Onset is a photograph made when the moon first started to cover the sun. The image shows the sun with sunspots, the sun's corona, and the shadow side of the moon.

Populace

A wild, churning mass of life forms organizes into a stacked populace of various characters bonded with a common mortar. People gather in communities to share common values and heritage. This populace is abstract reality in fiery colors.

Bosque Trail 2

Autumn view of Rio Grande Bosque (forest) in the north Albuquerque area showing the pathway that continues for miles alongside the river. The hush of tall cottonwood trees with dense brush undergrowth and trails worn by foot and bike traffic create a relaxing environment.

Boundaries

Are you in the bubble, or in the painting? Boundaries contrasts a floating bubble of reality against background with a painterly effect. Look close enough at the image to see the difference. Is the painting outside the bubble of reality? Maybe it should be the other way around. Take your pick.

Reminisce

It’s a matter of now and then; thinking back to last summer. Rather than “turning over a new leaf,” it’s more like “turning back the old leaf.”

Print it BIG and look UP CLOSE. It's surprising what's in there.
