It’s doubtful anyone knows what made this particular tree grow up in this odd way. Started a few feet above the ground, then turned almost horizontal, and then turn back upward. The camera was aimed parallel with the ground, which is evident by looking at the dark colored tree in the background. A wide angle lens was used to include the lower trunk a few feet above the ground and the overhead upper branches. This image is ideal for an eye-popping metal print.

This photograph was made in November 2025 in the Open Space in north Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Open Space forest is adjacent to the Rio Grande river. The delta areas on both sides of the river are ideal environments for cottonwoods. The shallow water table and year round moist soil also hosts a variety of undergrowth alongside the trees.
