Goblin Colony 1 Wall Art Print

Goblin Colony 1 is a wall art print of rock formations near Ponderosa, New Mexico. The unusual shapes of these formations were created by erosion of volcanic tuff deposited over a million years ago. Air pockets in the material created the crevices and holes in the rocks. The shapes and shadows in the rocks often resemble faces, heads and bodies of strange creatures. Thus the name Goblin Colony. The distorted features often depict facial expressions, stimulating the imagination to come up with names and characters. This photograph was made on a bright sunny day with no clouds in the sky, which increased the contrast and visibility of the shapes. It’s a lot of fun to browse in and around these rock formations. Everywhere you turn there is another scene and cast of characters. The formations are located on a steep slope that makes it tricky in spots to hike around. You can easily spend a couple of hours looking around and still not see it all.
