Vinca Core Vertical

Description

An innocent little Vinca is a small, flat, prolific blooming little plant at home outdoors or in almost any sunny window. If you move in and look closely, there is an interesting, almost scary looking core inside the center of the bloom. Are those teeth? The mouth of a voracious water bug ready to eat other bugs? What is it doing inside the core of a Vinca bloom?
The fact is that Vincas are a sun loving, nectar provider for bees and hummingbirds. The teethy looking entity inside the core is the pollen sac and components for seed production and reproduction. The plant is also called a periwinkle, a fun name that suggests happiness. So much for scary, embedded bugs. Like most plants, the intricate structure of the Vinca core is a fascinating work of art by mother nature, surrounded by a blanket of saturated color. This image is the “bee’s eye view.”
