Ficus Blue

Description

The Ficus Carica, a character with a history in mythology and religion, starts with impressive leaves at a very young age. This variety of Ficus is also called the “Common Fig” which is known for its edible fruit. The fruit is actually the bloom of the plant. This sapling will continue to grow over time and can achieve heights of over 20 feet tall. Does it start in blue? No. This is OpusStuf experimenting with color and settling on blue because it delivers a bright and healthy radiance.
This photograph was made by focus stacking five images to retain sharp focus from the front to the rear of the plant. A white ring light was used under the plant to accent the veins in the leaves. A narrow beam blue sidelight from the right applied color to the largest leaf. The green leaf and stem were exposed with a normal color balance. The background was actually a tan color, but the color balance was shifted in the RAW to TIF conversion. The result is almost a duotone effect with green and blue, with a boost in saturation from the bottom light. The final result is a pop of color and shapes with a light hearted mood.
