Clear Lake

Description

Clear Lake occupies a naturally formed bowl at 12,000 ft. above sea level in the mountains seven or eight miles southwest of Silverton, Colorado. The road climbing to the lake is rocky with tight switchbacks. 4 wheel drive is strongly suggested on the road sign at the turnoff from the main road. After the climb up the mountainside, you cross over the last rise to a view of the lake that is simply stunning. The lake is just above the timberline in this part of the state, revealing the granite, tundra-like terrain around the lake. The water is extremely clear with a turquoise color cast. The day this photograph was taken was clear with only a breeze in the chilly air. Look closely at the right side of the photograph of a person walking the trail alongside the lake to give you an idea of the scale of the lake and mountains.
This photograph, taken in July 2022, is a 3-image stitch panorama to take in the lake and surrounding mountain peaks. A slight “swirly” effect was added to emphasize the natural shapes and slopes in the mountains. A large print of this image is comfortable in a living or entertainment room, lounge or bar, hobby room or even a bedroom.
