Thoughts Regarding Compositions in Your Wall Art

There are numerous excellent articles on composition that are readily found with simple web searches. Rather than repeat some or much of this content, this thought paper suggests some basic concepts to have in mind when shopping for wall art. The purpose is to give you a basis of evaluating artwork that will be visually comfortable in addition to your general feelings about the composition or subject.
The following classic standards are often used to create artwork that is attractive to the majority of the population. Some artists will purposely deviate from these standards to draw attention to a particular object or create a visual attraction/distraction in the composition. There are no hard and fast rules, and these standards are often used simply as starting points by the artists. These rules may also explain a feeling you have when you view a particular piece and think, “There is something wrong here,” but you can’t explain exactly what is “wrong” with it.
